What about the cost-sharing standard… if your son temporarily needs benefits?

Linda is a single parent and lives with her two sons Vic (26) and Alex (23) in the Reeshof.

Vic works at Interpolis and Alex has just finished his studies and is looking for a job. He has applied for benefits. Linda contacts her contact person. She would like to know what the consequences are for her benefit.

No consequences for Linda, but for Alex

Vic and Alex do not count as a cost sharer for Linda because they are not yet 27 years old. For Alex, his mother does count as a cost sharer. Alex receives an adjusted benefit. Linda is advised to pass it on to her contact person in time when Vic turns 27. Work and Income then adjusts her benefit and possibly also Alex's if he still needs a benefit.

Why does Linda have to report this herself?

Work and Income only knows that Linda has children and that her son Alex is 23. No further information is known about Vic, because he does not receive benefits.
