WHO IS IT INTENDED FOR?

This vacancy is intended for target group candidates or candidates who can obtain a DGR indication via the practical training route. We are looking for people with technical aptitude and experience in performing practical maintenance tasks. Have you previously worked with the maintenance and management of buildings and inventory, or perhaps as a caretaker? Then your background aligns well with this position.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Your duties include, among other things:

  • You ensure a welcoming reception for (international) employees, students, and visitors;
  • You open and/or close the building and provide access to the various rooms;
  • You are the point of contact for the building and fulfill a social role towards users (students, teachers, and entrepreneurs), building a bond with them;
  • You receive mail and packages and ensure that they reach the right people;
  • You assist with connecting and preparing audiovisual equipment for use;
  • You conduct patrol rounds and ensure compliance with the (house) rules, including the smoke-free policy;
  • You ensure that the building remains clean and tidy and perform light housekeeping duties, such as keeping the kitchen organized, wiping down tables, vacuuming, and refilling coffee machines;
  • You are responsible for managing the building calendar (Outlook), reserving rooms, and maintaining relevant documentation regarding maintenance and usage;
  • You identify defects and malfunctions, resolve minor technical problems (such as electrical issues, leaks, and blockages), and carry out minor repairs to items such as tables, chairs, doors, cabinets, and lighting. If necessary, you involve the Management & Maintenance department;
  • You are eager to learn and perform administrative tasks, such as creating and processing reports in Planon (the facility management system). Basic computer skills are important for this, and you have a sufficient command of them.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE?

You start the day at the Deprez building (next to Tilburg Central Station) and/or buildings on the Tilburg University campus. You begin your day by briefly reviewing what is happening in the building that day. Next, you conduct a control round to check if everything is in order and interact with students, staff, and other users of the building. During your round, you identify any areas requiring attention and immediately take care of small tasks where necessary. This includes light cleaning duties or resolving minor practical issues in the building. Throughout the day, requests also come in from staff, students, or business owners in the building. You handle and resolve these requests to ensure the building continues to function smoothly and that those present are well assisted.

WHAT DO YOU BRING?

You:

  • Get along well with people and have a service-oriented attitude;
  • Are socially skilled and dare to address people in a friendly manner regarding order, behavior, and cleanliness;
  • Works accurately, neatly, and in a structured manner;
  • Have an affinity for management and technology, have an eye for bottlenecks, and are able to independently resolve small tasks and malfunctions;
  • Possess basic ICT skills, such as working with a computer and assisting with audiovisual equipment for (new) speakers, trainers, and meetings;
  • Can work independently, thinks proactively, and dares to make decisions where necessary;
  • Possesses good oral and written communication skills and can also manage well verbally in English;
  • Are flexible and willing to work at varying times (during the day and in the evening);
  • Are willing and able to take a First Aid (BHV) course at the university and, if necessary, perform BHV duties in practice.
WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
  • A position for a minimum of 28 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week (the number of hours will be determined in consultation based on your availability).
  • Fixed working hours from Monday to Friday
  • You start with a 2-month trial placement (if eligible for benefits) or a probationary period. If you perform well, this will be converted into a paid contract with the possibility of extension.
  • The starting salary is 105% of the statutory minimum wage with opportunities for advancement.
