Grounds Manager Tilburg University Sports Centre

Heb je interesse?
WHO IS IT INTENDED FOR?

This vacancy is intended for target group candidates or candidates who can obtain a DGR indication via the practice route.

We are looking for people who already have experience with landscaping or grounds maintenance. Have you previously worked in the green sector, maintaining outdoor spaces, sports fields, or grounds? Then your background aligns well with this position.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Your duties at the sports center include, among other things:

  • Keeping the sports fields/grounds clean: removing litter, glass, and cigarette butts;
  • Remove leaves, weeds, and blossoms from the sports field and surrounding area.
  • Light pruning
  • Performing minor maintenance or odd jobs on sports equipment and sports-related materials, such as repairing exam tables or chairs, tennis rackets, replacing nets in goals
  • Other facility tasks, for example keeping the indoor spaces/storage areas and the outdoor grounds of the Sports Center tidy and clean.
  • Refueling with petrol and diesel for maintenance materials and the tractor
  • Empty the containers on the outer fields
  • Providing assistance at events with, for example, placing and emptying waste containers, enforcing smoking bans, or supporting the front office employee or manager.
  • Remove bicycles that are parked incorrectly
  • Light pruning
  • Laying or replacing loose paving stones properly
  • Clearing snow and spreading salt in the winter
  • During the quiet winter period, you may be deployed within the Management & Maintenance department on the campus grounds.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE?

You start the day at the Tilburg University Sports Centre (Sportweg 13A) in combination with working on the campus grounds. You begin early by reviewing the schedule and checking which tasks have priority for the day. Subsequently, you get to work independently on and around the sports centre and the campus. You will spend a lot of time outdoors, walking or driving a service vehicle across the grounds to perform various tasks. These include keeping the sports grounds clean, clearing away waste, performing minor maintenance, and identifying and resolving practical issues. Throughout the day, planned work and ad-hoc jobs alternate to ensure the grounds and facilities remain tidy, safe, and ready for use for visitors and athletes. During the quieter winter period, the employee may also be deployed within the Management & Maintenance department on the campus grounds.

WHAT DO YOU BRING?
  • You enjoy working outdoors, but you also don't mind providing support indoors.
  • You are a good listener and carry out instructions as agreed.
  • You are physically capable of performing the work: you can walk a lot and stand for long periods, and have sufficient strength to carry out tasks such as holding a leaf blower, stretching nets, and emptying waste bins.
  • You are friendly to everyone you come into contact with
  • You are willing to work on weekends a few times a year to help with events.
  • You can work independently
  • You are willing to learn new things related to the position.
  • The sports center is a dynamic environment where every day is different; therefore, flexibility is required: the ability to adapt behavior in different situations or towards different people. You can easily switch between different tasks.
  • You can function well socially, that is to say, you can express yourself verbally and dare to ask for and accept help where necessary.
  • In possession of a valid category B driving license (legally required because you sometimes drive a trailer on public roads)
WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?
  • A position for a minimum of 28 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week (the number of hours will be determined in consultation based on your availability).
  • Fixed working hours from Monday to Friday
  • You start with a 2-month trial placement (if eligible for benefits) or a probationary period. If you perform well, this will be converted into a paid contract with the possibility of extension.
  • The starting salary is 105% of the statutory minimum wage with opportunities for advancement.
