In the Netherlands, everyone pays tax on their wages, benefits or pension. Most people receive a letter from the Tax and Customs Administration.
I have received a letter from the tax authorities
You must file an income tax return for 2022. This means that you must inform the Tax and Customs Administration of how much income you received in 2022. The Tax and Customs Administration checks whether the amount you paid in payroll tax and premiums (taxes) is correct.
Why do I have to report?
By filing a return, you know whether you have paid too much or too little tax. You must file a declaration before 1 May 2023. Is this not possible? Then ask the Tax and Customs Administration for a postponement.
How do I determine my income?
You will receive the annual statement from us in February. This shows your income for 2022. Do you also have income from work? Then you will also receive an annual statement from your employer.
