In the Netherlands, everyone pays tax on their wages, benefits or pension. Most people receive a letter from the Tax and Customs Administration.
I received a letter from the Tax Authorities
You must file an income tax return for 2023. This means that you inform the Tax Authorities how much income you received in 2023. The Tax Authorities will check whether the amount you have paid in payroll tax and premiums (taxes) is correct.
Why do I have to report?
By filing a tax return, you will know whether you have paid too much or too little tax. You must file a declaration before May 1, 2024. Is this not possible? Then request a postponement from the Tax Authorities.
How do I determine my income?
You will receive the annual statement from us in February. This shows your income for 2023. Do you also have income from work? You will then also receive an annual statement from your employer.
