1. What is it?

Do you have a (temporary) residence permit? Do you want help finding (volunteer) work? Then you can work on this together with a Kikmaat supervisor. The counselor helps you to gain more self-confidence and to stand up for yourself better. He or she looks with you at what motivates you. If there are things that you find difficult in the Netherlands, you can work on this together.

This can be various things such as help with debt problems and arranging childcare. Or finding work or activities you want to do. You make agreements with your client director about your goals. The Kikmaat counselor will help you achieve these goals.

You can participate in a group program. You will also receive language lessons and conversations with your supervisor:

For example, in the group program you will:

  • Get information about learning and working in the Netherlands
  • Getting to know Tilburg and your own neighborhood better
  • Understanding cultural differences
  • Orientate yourself to your options for (volunteer) work
  • Learn how to apply
  • Participate in activities (e.g. a day of volunteering)

During the language lessons you will learn:

  • New Dutch words and phrases
  • Communicating in Dutch at work

During conversations with your supervisor you can get help with:

  • Questions you have
  • Reading letters
  • Contacts with the municipality about, for example, childcare
  • Apply
  • Starting (volunteer) work

2. What is the goal?

You have agreed with your client director what your goal is. This can be daytime activities, voluntary work or a paid job. In this process you will get started with this goal. You will solve problems and learn new things.

3. How long does it take?

You have a workout or an activity for 2 hours a week. You also have Dutch language lessons for 2 hours a week. For this you do homework at home. You regularly have a conversation with your supervisor. Are you going to do an internship or do a trial run? Then you will be at your internship or workplace for about 3-4 days. An internship often lasts 3 months and a trial period 1-3 months.

So you are active for a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of 36 hours per week.

4. For who is it?

Are you a status holder and would you like to work voluntarily or paid? Do you need help to achieve this? Then this trajectory at Kikmaat is for you! If you are ready to start paid work, it is important that you speak enough Dutch.

5. What does the contact look like?

Today you have a lesson about money. You learn about salary and about debt. You now know how much allowance you will receive for your rent or for your children if you start working. After the lesson you have an appointment with your supervisor. You have received a letter from your landlord and you do not fully understand it. You go through the letter together. You will also practice together for the job interview that you have next week. Your supervisor will also accompany you to the interview.

At home you do your homework for the next day. You can practice 10 new words for tomorrow's language lesson. The lesson is about talking to your boss.
